I have several in a 29 gallon bb with pvc pipes. What's the recommended QT procedure for these guys? I have CP, prazi, acriflavine, formalin, and furan-2. My biggest fear is BSJ disease. Thoughts on what to use and what order to use it?

I recently treated one for BSJ disease. I used metronidazole (exs. Metro-MS, Seachem Metroplex) and kanamycin (ex. Seachem Kanaplex). This combination of meds reversed a BSJ that wouldn't eat, had bad symptoms of the disease, to fully cured in about 2 weeks.

So I'm thinking the above for 2 weeks, then prazipro then CP. Is that a good course of action?

I saw your 10 day treatment method. Can I use prazi along with kanaplex and metro? I'd like to use all together to get them through the medication quickly. I dosed the kanaplex and metro today and want to know if I can go ahead with the prazi and cp as well.

Yes but it must be praziquantel in powder form. Liquid Prazipro contains oxybispropanol (solubilizing agent) and mixing this with other meds (especially CP) was disastrous for me in earlier experiments. The resulting interaction led to a bacterial bloom in the QT which starved all the oxygen out of the water.

What you have to do is use API General Cure - which contains prazi & metro in powder form - instead of using Prazipro. You also obviously don't have to dose metro since it already contains that. ;) Only other option is to buy power prazi/metro from a place like this (but they only sell in bulk): http://fishremedies.com/aquaculturechemicals.aspx

I caution my 10 day treatment protocol is still experimental. However, I am in the final phase of it and so far, so good. :)

Any reason for formalin dips with the treatment we are talking about? Thanks for all of your help! I lost every fish in my tank not qt'ing. I'll never have that happen again!

I wouldn't expose a fish to formalin unless they had symptoms of velvet or brook, and even then acriflavine is probably a better alternative (still experimenting with that).

Sorry to hear about all your fish. :(

So far, so good.

What's the likelihood of a disease showing after QT due to stress? I plan to put all 5 in my display after QT to try to get them to form a pair or harem. Aggression has been minimal in QT, but it's pretty tough for them to establish territories without building burrows. I'm mainly concerned with BSJ disease.

Stress can bring out symptoms of a disease the fish is already carrying, but it cannot cause what is not there in the first place. Meaning, if you prophylactically treat for BSJ disease in QT and BSJ disease is not already present in your DT - the fish cannot "get" the disease from stress alone after being introduced into the DT. This logic applies to all diseases BTW, except those which have no known treatment i.e. viruses like Lymphocystis.

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. I know little is known about the disease and thought maybe it could be a bacteria always present that manifests itself during stress or poor conditions.
