How are yall QT'ing your pygmy's for the ich eradication route? Humble.fish's old posts recommend avoiding copper, so does that just leave TTM?
Is ich-X a thing in the saltwater hobby, and does it treat velvet?

I would make a couple suggestions:

1. I would ask Humblefish how he would approach this now with regards to copper - my feeling is that with levels, and a chelated copper product it is not likely to cause a problem
2. Ich X is a thing - but there are huge doubts as to whether it helps (there is a marine version)
3. I would not treat velvet with Ich-X (marine version)

Here is an old thread that might help? https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/potter-angelfish-and-copper.966330/

Hope this helps and welcome to the site!!!

I didn't realize humble was still around. I'll also read through that thread here in a minute

You can safely use coppersafe at 2.0
They don’t do well with hyposalinity and ttm too stressful

Can people use it at 2.5?
I recalculated the “full dose” and using my best lab technique, the full dose for coppersafe came out at 2.25 ppm. We’ve been using it at 2.5 for severe infections with no issues.

Amine-based chelated copper products are fine (coppersafe and copper power). I try to avoid ionic copper with Centropyge angels (Cupramine or copper/citric acid). I think Humblefish’s info was based on the latter.

Ich-X has a couple of different formulations. The original version is formalin and malachite green. It is a freshwater medication. The saltwater version is just a weak formalin solution. It is difficult to control ich and velvet with formalin.

thanks yall. I'm going to do a slow ramp up of CopperPower (I have two bottles already) and abort if it starts freaking out or getting too lethargic.

Ah - there is no need to ramp it up slowly - you just need to dose accurately. I suggest two half doses, 12 hours apart, adjusting the second dose to reach 100%. Then retest 4 hours later to confirm the dose. Dealers put fish into full copper all the time with no issues.

There is a risk, where people take that to the extreme, and ramp up copper over, say, 5+ days. That can allow disease issues to become active. Then, when the fish start to show symptoms, the person freaks out, thinking it is the copper, they pull the copper and the fish quickly succumbs to the disease - yet the aquarist blames "copper poisoning"....

interesting. With my clowns that just finished QT, I dropped them into 2.5 straight from the store with no issues; however, internet made me nervous about angels.
