I got the tank setup. Heater, Aqua clear filter, powered, and light. I took a filter sponge that was sitting in the display tank for 2 months and added it to the Aqua clear. I took half the water from display tank and did half new water. Got my copper to 1.6. Was going to add fish, but have decided to hold off for a little.

My question is how long will the bacteria stay in the tank without any fish or food? Should I just take the tank down for now? Not sure how long it will be until I go out and grab a fish.

That's a great question. Copper will degrade the bacteria. Without fish, food, etc. the results long term would be difficult to guess. Without the copper the bacteria will decrease a bit and kinda go dormant. But they are still there.
