Looks like my hippo tang has come down with ich. I’ve been preparing for something like this to happen so I should have everything I need. I have a few sponges that have been seeding in my sump for about a month, new heater and power head. Also have some copper power on standby. When filling the qt, should I use water from my display or fresh saltwater and drip acclimate? First case of ich so any info is helpful

You can do either really if you’re treating with copper or doing the tank transfer method. The copper will kill any free swimming theronts.

by the way, if you used your infected sump to seed your sponges, you should assume they will have ich present in them too.

Yeah figured as much, wouldn’t the copper kill the ich in the seeded filter as well? My only form of bacteria is in my display so it’s my only option.

Another question seeing as how it would be difficult to catch and take all the fish out my my display, would an option be to take all my coral out (they’re all frags) and treat the entire display instead? Not too educated as to if that would cause an issue or not to my display. Stock list is hippo tang, tomani tang, yellow tang, pair of clowns, royal gramma, diamond goby, Ruby red fairy wrasse, and 2 snails.

Copper only kills the free swimming phase of the cycle, so it would treat any tomonts after they hatch.
It could be trouble completely removing copper from a display tank. It’s not recommended as it may have lasting g impacts to corals and inverts.
