I still consider myself new. My tank has been up and running for 6 months. I've added new inhabitants and have been lucky. I want to do right by my current fish and new fish by starting to qt. From what I've read on the forum, i think i got it down, but please chime in with your suggestions.

I'll be getting a 10 to 20 gallon tank with HOB filter, light (ramped up slowly in intensity/duration), and small heater. I'll fill the tank with water change water from my display. I plan on keeping salinity the same as the dt until i know there is a problem requiring hypo. I'll test frequently and wc daily or every other day 10% with new saltwater. After 2 weeks, if my new buddy is eating well and showing no sign of disease, I'll check the parameters and temp are the same and transfer to the dt.

What am I missing or planning wrong?

Thanks for your help and patience for me beating this dead horse.

Just a few notes. PVC pipes and fittings are great places for fish to hide while in QT as they can be cleaned incase of a disease or death. Should also have a lid to keep jumpers from jumping out. If your QT is in an area of high traffic (kitchen, living room, dining room) you will want to cover the tank with a towel or background film to make sure your new friend does not get startled by people buzzing past. You will also want separate accessories for the QT than the DT like nets, food, buckets, siphon hose, food thawing container, etc. 2 weeks is unfortunately a bit short for proper QT, 3 weeks minimum, 4-5 would be ideal. I know you want to put the new guy in, but it is better he stay in QT until his time is up.
In addition to the above link that was posted, in this thread you can see multiple different type of QT set ups, including my own; https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/fish-discussion/113616-how-your-current-quarantine-tank-set-up.html And Mr Saltwater Tank put out an amazing book about quarantining, I have found it very helpful.
