I've scoured through all the QT threads but couldn't find exactly what I was wanting to know. I'm setting up 2 20g QT's because Petco has $1 gallon going on and why not right? Anyway, my DT has incredibly high nitrates. I have a sponge in the sump to seed but not sure whether some of those nitrates will transfer over or not. I also have a bunch of live rock in there I can use. Or, would it just be better to buy new sponges and use Bio-spira? I have an order of fish coming in Friday and want to make sure they are comfy.

No rock in QT....use large PVC fittings for fish to hide. The reason, if you end up using meds, the rock absorbs meds and now they are below therapeutic levels.

Assuming you'll have HOB filters on these tanks, take the filter pad and put it in your sump (if no sump, in the DT). The bacteria will seed the filter pads. Also pick up ammonia badges for each tank and a bottle of Prime just in case, and have water ready for water changes.

Got it. Was more concerned about the transfer of nitrates. I'm assuming it is nothing to worry about. I'll take a sponge out of the sump and cut it in half. Can I put any type of sponge in there to seed for next go tound. I'm assuming I need to throw these away after QT. Thank you very much for your help.
