so I've had this QT setup running for about a year now. I've been plagued with velvet in DT. I'm getting close to the time to move the fish back in and start some new fish in QT. My question is should I bleach this QT and start all over or just let it run without fish and with carbon for a week? No sump just a pump on one side up to bio-balls and a air powered sponge filter.

Studies suggest the bio-film buildup in the QT will effect any meds dosed into the QT. Bleach for bio-film, rinse, rinse, rinse. Dry. Vinegar for precipitating copper residue into harmless form, rinse, rinse, rinse, Dry. And if you have had a particularly scary disease in the tank, you could also clean with hydrogen peroxide, rinse, rinse, rinse, Dry.

I never leave a QT running 24/7. I bleach everything in between all batches of fish, rinse well, and air dry completely before the next batch. That’s just me.

There’s a lot of ways to do it, but it’s better to be safe!
