so I have been reading that a QT tank is something you should have for a SW tank. The problem is I have absolutely no room left. My question is can I purchase a 10 gallon tank from petco for the $1 a gallon sale and use that as a QT? Is that to small or to big? Could I go smaller? Since I have no room could I set this on top of my current tank or is that not safe...could I just drain the tank after the fish goes into the main tank??? I have many more questions about this but wanna get some answers to these first...

10g works, I have 1 that size. It's advisable if possible 10ft from DT but there are many that sit side by side or underneath. You can drain after using, keep a sponge in your sump to seed if needed.

Hi! having a QT is a great choice! The size of the QT depends on the size of the fish you will buying. Small fish will be fine in a 10 gallon tank for a couple weeks. I wouldn't put it on top of your current tank.... it's best to get it 10 feet away from the display. Now, you dont have to keep the QT up and running all the time. You can drain it, sterilize and put away until you get another fish. Do you have a counter or side table you could place it on for a couple weeks at a time?

I could probably get some sort if table for it if i can break it down at the end.

Now my next questions are for the QT tank the salinity and the temps have to be the same as the main right? And also does it have to be cycled or what? Tbh I kind of need a step by step guide on how to do this.

10 gal is fine. You can keep it drained till you need it.
You also need a heater and a small power head.
A small filter to run carbon is a plus if you have one.
QT tank should never have sand or gravel.
2" to 4" PVC pieces are good for structure for fish to hide and feel safe.

Investing $30 is a QT tank can save you LOTS of money.

Side note: I match my qt to the salinity of where the fish is coming from to make acclimation easier. I just raise the salinity to match DT over 4-6 weeks while the fish is in qt. A tad bit less stress.

Same Temp and PH - YES
No need to cycle. Keep a sponge in your sump. When you need to setup the QT tank, move the sponge to the QT tank and it will bring the bacteria you need.
I fill the QT tank with water from my display.
