Hi
Does a QT tank need to be setup before needing it and stay setup after? Or can it be done when ur going to need to use it?

You can seed a sponge filter in your sump so when quarantine is ready you have beneficial bacteria to help out.
What do you mean by this? I’m planning to add a few fish to my tank and I’ve never done QT before but planning on starting. Do you mind explaining a little more? @jmichaelh7

Can I just get a little 10-20 gal tank from petsmart and siphon water from my tank to it for the QT? Does tha small 10-20 gallon need a full normal setup like a regular tank?

Pending fish,

Add a bio brick of some sort to your sump. When its ready to QT you set it up with tank water and toss that bio brick that has been seeded from your main system to this QT on the fly tank.

@RRA doea this mean it won’t have to cycle because it had that in it?

Also do I need everything a normal tank has or just the HOB filter and a heater? Since it’s temporary?

Yes, if the brick is seeded and you use tank water it would be a "insta tank". Filtration would be pending what your doing/dosing. heater and water movment atleast, HOB filter could be flow and a place for carbon if its needed. Dont forget a 3-4" piece of PVC for a place to hide is always nice.

@RRA thank you for the help and replies.
