HI Guys
I have a 25 gallon cube and a 10 gallon tank to use for QT but I have a few questions on how to set them up

1 - how do you cycle the QT tanks quick - I do have rock in my sump from the main system - can I use that
2 - all the cheep filters I can find are fresh water is that ok
3- since I will be running 2 tanks do I treat for different things or the same thing in both so I can QT more fish at the same time
do I run one with copper and the other with something different
do I run one like my main system and one with meds
4- what are the main meds I should have on hand

thanks

1. Use the rock.
2. Cheap filter ok.
3. No opinion. Depends on size an number of fish.
4. Copper, prazipro. I sometimes use General Cure. I target ich, velvet, and flukes.

1. I also use a 10g tank as my main QT. I usually set it up a few days to a week before I expect fish to arrive. I only use BioSpira bottled bacteria to cycle the tank. I have not had any ammonia issues. Every day, I add a cap full of BioSpira for the first week of the tank setting up. I've even set the tank up a day before getting a fish and added the cap of BioSpira each day for the first week or so of quarantine without issues.

2. I use a HOB filter for my QTs.

3. Using multiple QTs is a possibility. You can treat differently in each tank. But, if you are just looking to quarantine more fish at once, I'd just put some fish in one tank and some in the other and treat them exactly the same on the same schedule rather than looking to change tanks.

4. I keep the following meds on hand for quarantine purposes: CopperSafe, PraziPro, General Cure, Metrodonizole. I also keep some meds for possible illness treatments: Furan2, Metroplex, and KanaPlex.

1. Yes, you can use media from your sump to kickstart/instant cycle your tank. just keep an eye on parameters.
2. hob is totally fine. Just be careful if using the cartridges. most will have some carbon which will suck some of the meds out of the water. I like to use a coarse sponge instead.
3. Depends on the end goal. You can match them or make one tank for something and another for something different. personally, I try to net fish the least I can, especially when sick and stressed.
4. rally pro, copper, prazipro, metro, general.

I would suggest reading this thread(or at least the first entry).
