What does everyone use for a QT setup? Does it need to be always running? Could it be ran only when needed? Let me know what your running for setups and pics if you have them.

Eric

I run a 20G long tank. I store it and the hang-on filter, heater, thermometer and all plastic fake rocks, pvc pipes etc together. I keep the sponge from the hang-on in my display tank's refugium to hold all the bacteria you will need when you setup your qt for a new aquisition. When the sponge is used in the QT, I buy a new one and put the new on in my display tank to seed.
Remember, qt tanks sometimes have copper or other meds introduced. I always keep the qt items together, away from all my other aquarium items.

just my 2 cents

I use a standard AGA 10 or 20G glass tank depending on what I have to QT or medicate.
An Aquaclear hang on back filter, heater, a PC light fixture if its for fish, MH pendant if its for corals and a few PVC fittings for fish to hide in rounds out the equipment.
I keep the AC filter sponge in my main sump at all times so its charged with bacteria and ready to go. I set the QT up using new saltwater, add the side filter and heater and its ready to go. Once I am done, I tear it down, disinfect everything, throw the filter sponge away and stick a brand new one in my sump so I don't contaminate anything and wait for next time.
It only takes a few minutes to set it up and tear it down so I don't worry about running it all the time.

How long are you guys QT corals? And how ofter do you do water changes on the QT with coral?

It all depends on why I have the coral in QT to begin with.Different treatments, pests or diseases have different time periods. Often its more for observation than anything. Say I bring a coral home from a Frag swap and its from someone who I have never traded with before, I stick it under observation for a few days first before adding it to my display. It gives me a chance to pull it out, dip it in Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure, Flatworm Exit or use Interceptor etc.
I have a few homemade eggcrate coral racks I set them on so pests can drop to the bottom and be seen. I also use a Koralia in the QT when I have corals to boost circulation.

Exactly my thoughts, for observation. How long do you go before a water change on the QT.

Again, water changes kind of depend on the medications and strengths they need to be kept at. Some things like the TMPCC I take the corals out and dip seperately then put back in the QT but others like Interceptor need time and multiple doses over days so I hold off on water changes unless test kits show its necessary. Same with fish medications, some need to be present for days so changes reduce the levels and you have to account for that.
