QT tank

Are you planning on using medications in the QT tank? If so, you wont want to put the live rock back into your display. If not, live rock would be fine...or just keep up with frequent water changes.

I'd not use live rock in a QT tank, but would throw on a mechanical filter. That way you can throw carbon into the filter to remove chems or meds that you use.

the QT tank Is for new fish so I can watch them to make sure they are not sick...and If they are I would be using medication....so the tank will cycle with just the water and I will buy a filter for It..or do I add something to the water? lol confused.

I use a small HOB filter. When biological filtration is needed, I take a piece of my bubble trap out of my sump and cut it up to fit into the HOB filter. The media already contains the necessary bacteria from sitting in your sump. When you need to remove medications, you can throw some carbon in the HOB filter. I have extra filter media that I throw back into my sump to seed it for the next time the QT is needed.

I Just use an old bubble filter stuffed with filter floss thats been seeded by my DT, fill with water from my main tank, drop in a heater and throw in some cut PVC for hiding spots Nothing more. That way you medicate your QT or use as HT and wont need to worry about contaminating your live rock.
