Hi, I setup my quarantine tank and I am treating my new fish with Cupramine before they go into the DT. My ammonia keeps spiking about every other day and I change out 20% of the water to remedy. Is the ammonia spiking normal?

Yes, you can try using some biospira if you have some filtration it may level off for you. Its been working for me

Side note - don't use anything like Prime to try and lock up the ammonia. Copper and Prime together = really bad things.

Biospira is a great shout - and big water changes are your best friend right now. The filtration in the QT just isn't ready to handle the amount of fish you've got in there.

I'd cut back on feeding for a couple days, keep the water changes up and add the biospira straight to your bio media.

Yes, if it’s a basic bare QT.

Have you considered the Tank Transfer Method (TTM) — you could stay ahead of Ich and ammonia problems at the same time. Just a thought. Best wishes!

I only had 1 instance of ammonia and that was immediately following the addition of copper to the system. Hit it with a whole bottle of biospira and was good for the remainder of the qt. I did one water change 1/2 way through for what its worth

Thanks everyone for the help. I had been adding prime so I will stop, Will stability do the same thing as biopira? I already have a bottle.
