I just setup a QT tank Friday and treating with copper power and api general cure. I'm now having to leave out of town for a week and a half for some medical treatments. I have a buddy who can come by every other day at most. Yes, terrible timing haha. I have a canister filter and a hob whisper filter.
How can I keep the ammonia down without being able to check every day? I have api ammonia chips (not sure if I can even use these for saltwater) and I have a bottle of prime. I will leave 30g of saltwater mixed for my friend to change every couple of days when he comes by.
Please help me to figure out a way for this to run as smooth as possible! Thank you!

What size QT and how many fish?

18g of water and 5 fish (2 clowns, 2 cardinals and a melanarus)
Bump for someone more knowledgeable to chime in.

But here is what I'd probably do (without any better advice from someone else).

Have all the SW premixed with the appropriate copper power.

Have your friend do a 6g water change each visit. 6g because that's how much SW you said you have on hand for him to do about 5 changes. Have Prime divided up in cups about 1/2 cap per cup and have him dose that AFTER the water change. Use Prime dosing instructions for 18g.

You should mark that tank so he knows how much water to remove.

This assumes he does come every other day. If he comes every third day it gets a little dicey.

The Prime will bind ammonia for up to 48hrs and is safe to use with Copper Power.
