So I set up my QT tank a few weeks back and finally added all my (6) fish from my DT in there. I saw some signs of ich and I have previous had many remedies to ich and unfortunately have never had a problem. But this time I plan on doing a full QT process and keeping my DT fallow for 76 days. My question is, since I have to keep my tank fallow for 76 days, should I wait to copper treat closer to that 76 days period?

Also, this might be a good time to upgrade since my DT (40g b) just has corals in it easier to transfer. I’m thinking maybe like a 66g rimless cube or something like that? Thoughts?

Ok so if your qt is on the smaller i would...

start treatment for ich now.
Get your new tank started,
start cycling the 40b after treating in bleach.
After 30 days move fish to the larger 40
76 days move from 40 to the 66.

for long term hiding spots in qt i like to gkur these into cave structures with super glue. Acts as bio filter and fish feel more secure.

Ah...so now I understand why the question. Freshwater dips are not considered a 'cure' for all strains of ich. Plus - and you'll have to research, freshwater dips will need to be repeated every few days.

If you have copper and don't have any issues using it (some like "natural" freshwater over medications - something I do not agree with), I would. It's proven effective and you have the QT set up for that.

Go bigger if you have the space. It'll allow you to potentially keep some of the physically larger fish with plenty of swimming room.

Best of luck with going through the full QT process. It will make taking care of your fish's health problems a bit boring - Healthy fish! LOL ;)

Thanks for all the help. I started using copper yesterday and will continues to use it until I get to the therapeutic level and maintain that level until the 76 fallow days is up in my 40g (if I don’t find a bigger than in the meantime). I do have some pvc in the qt tank and also a baking dish filled with sand so my wrasse can use (which he did last night).
