Hey guys,
While I'm not new to the hobby I have never done qt before. I got a beautiful golden angelfish today and have him in a 10g with a hob and sponge filter. I seeded the qt with dr tims and am currently treating the water. The LFS I got him at gave me some rock pieces with algae for him to. My question is should I add the algae to the qt? Or should I wait until the initial treatments are done in 4 days. While he is still relatively fat, he has not taken to food at the LFS but was trying to pick at the algae in between the teeth of his cube in the store. If I do offer the algae, how often should I be changing the water? The tank is being treated with furan-2, kanaplex, and metroplex. Once treatments are done he will be moved into a 29g qt/holding tank for 5-6 weeks until his new 70g home is cycled

What are you treating with the combination of Furan-2, Kanaplex and Metroplex? And why only 4 days? Typically, antibiotics are administered for 10 days.
Suggest reading the "How to Quarantine" thread under fish disease, diagnosis and treatment. It is a bit lengthy but full of good information. Also suggest you get your fish eating before dosing with meds.

The furan and kanaplex is for external, metro for internal. The four days is to ensure anything falls off etc. I've been given advice from multiple people and none of it has been the same. I guess everyone does it different. The fish appears to be healthy but hasn't eaten in a while I'm presuming so I figured adding a small rock with algae might help followed by the required water change during furan treatment

I personally wouldn't dose antibiotics (Furan-2, Kanaplex, Metroplex) unless symptoms of a bacterial disease are present. This would be something like white splotches, red streaks or fin/tail rot. Antibiotics can deplete oxygen, be harsh on certain fish, cause appetite suppression, etc. so they should only be used when needed IMO.

I would just focus on getting the fish eating right now. Unless symptoms of a disease present themselves.

What do you suggest to get it feeding. In the LFS we tried flakes, mysis(he looked at but didn't go for), pellets, algae pellets. Should I try an angel formula? Nori?

Golden Angels are very reclusive fish (so provide lots of hiding places) and also reluctant feeders. So, I would try a clip of nori near one of his hiding spots.

Also, live foods (brine, blackworms) might work or any of the angel formulas. You also might try a littleneck clam from the grocery store (freeze for 24 hrs before feeding).

Should I try dipping the clams or nori in garlic?
