Hi Everybody!

I posted about my fish a while ago... But the problem started in a QT systems I have. Once I realized it was infected, I shut it down and drained it. (this was about two weeks ago)...

Since the fallow for brook is six weeks, should I just leave it dry for that period of time, then refill it?

I was originally planning on throwing out the rocks and cleaning everything, but if a simple dry fallow is good enough, I can save a couple rocks....

Thoughts?

I would reuse everything after six weeks, but I would definitely do an extremely thorough cleaning on all of it.

Thanks, yeah, I think so too... I'm going to put the rocks in a bucket with some salt water for 6 weeks, so if there is anything dormant it will be die off...

I will clean the tank and HOB with glutaraldehyde and fire it back up, fallowed for another four weeks...

Bleach will work just fine and isn’t as toxic for you as gluteraldehyde.

Do a 2-5% bleach solution in the tank, run the hob as usual for a few hours to soak it through, scrub, then big rodi rinse. Use a desk fan to force dry and let it sit dry for a day or two.

I’d replace the hob filter floss, add some biospira and cycle it in the 4 week fallow period and you’ll be good to go.

Interesting thanks... I have always been wary of using bleach for some reason... It's much cheaper than gluteraldehyde, lol...

Chucking the filter media is a given, and I would put a cured live rock in there to cycle it anyway...

I use bleach, vinegar and hot (not boiling, just hot-out-of-the-tap) water for cleaning. Run it for a few hours, or overnight ... weird stuff starts to grow if you wait _too_ long, though!

Use caution when adding hot water to glass - sudden change in temperature can crack a tank!

After a solid cleaning, you shouldn't need to wait six weeks.
