Currently have a foxface, sixline wrasse, and a scooter blenny in a QT that i am treating for ich with cupramine.

They have been in there for about a week now.

My six line wrasse has had a white stringy poop like thing hanging from underneath for the past couple of days. From my understanding, that is a parasite.

Will melafix treat that or do i need another medication?

Can i treat that and cupramine at the same time? The back of the bottle says not to, but i have heard mixed messages from reading other threads.

Thank you!

Not to sure about using Melafix with Cupramine. I know you can use Metroplex with Cupramine. Most wrasses are pretty sensitive to treatments but most six lines seem to tolerate them pretty well. After your Cupramine treatment you can do a few rounds of Prazi which should help with parasites as well. Best of Luck.

Hi there. This sounds like intestinal worms for sure. The treatment for that is metroplex. It's best to soak it into the food along with Focus to bind it there. This will take the med directly to the worms for better results.

So... We use a cube of frozen food, one scoop metro, one scoop focus and let that soak for about 20 minutes. Feed this once a day for a minimum of ten days... Note that it may take longer than ten days since intestinal worms can be quite stubborn.

Could ich be a symptom of the worms? And could it spread to other fish?

No, and yes.

Ich is a separate parasite, which lodges in the fish's skin or gills and feeds there for a few days. The stress of an intestinal parasite might make a fish a bit more vulnerable, but it's like catching a cold when you already have chicken-pox. They're not really related.

If another fish eats the white stringy poop ... (you'd be surprised how often that sort of thing happens) ... they can definitely catch the intestinal parasites. The good news is that if you feed the Metroplex to the tank, it should knock out all the parasites in all the fish at about the same time (unless anybody's not eating . . . ).

You'll have to watch for his poop. If his poop is back to normal, then he should be fine. If he's still pooping white and stringy then you need to keep going with the meds.
If hes not eating the food what do i do?
If he refuses to eat the medicated food, you can try masking the taste with garlic, but if that doesn't work then he needs to be in QT and the meds dosed in the water. Its not as good but they drink some of the water so it get's to the intestines as well.

Not a problem. That's what we are here for.

Thank you! I will keep an eye out. Still waiting for the meds to get here. Hope he makes it!
