my DT is ready to go, I've had my QT running about a week with some live rock from the DT and some bacteria in a bottle, it will drop the ammonia to zero in less than 24 hours from 1 ppm, but nitrites are still high and nitrates are starting to show up, my understanding is that nitrites aren't harmful in a saltwater system so my question is if i do a 50% or more water change and it still drops the ammonia then is it safe to put a few fish in to start QT?

Nitrates aren't harmful.
Just keep up with water changes on you QT.
If you medicate liverock isn't the best in your QT system.

Will the rock absorb the medication? It a 14 biocube, I put a few pieces of rubble in the filter section to seed the tank, can take em out.

It has no use after you medicate as most bacteria will be history.
Main thing on a QT is test for ammonia everyday and if necessary do a water change.
If course you can't do a water change when you medicate.

ok, my QT is empty, fish is in the DT, how should i disenfect the QT to get ready for the next round? bleach?

I had a starry blenny in it, he was in it 3 weeks, the last 2 with copper at therapeutic levels, and dosed prazipro.
