I have a canister filter I was thinking of using on a QT. Would this work? If so, it has 4 basket and 3 bags for media. What media should I use?

It will totally work, just keep in mind that if you end up using copper for treatment, it will forever be tainted. and can only be used for QT/hospital tank.

That's all it was going to be used for. what filter media would you suggest?

I would use some sort of macaroni media for a place for the bacteria to colonize and some granulated active carbon and a sponge disc. Just be sure to clean it religiously.

+1. I would only add that some sort of filter floss may be helpful to remove particulates, leftover food, etc. but should also be changed religiously. This could be used only with fish present.
