Hello! Almost all of my fish at this point come from Divers Den. I always still QT them, but I am wondering some things. I am familiar with @HotRocks and @Humblefish methods of QTing, but should it change some for a Divers Den fish? Would a 2 week observation period, and if the fish shows clean and healthy, be a good specimen to release into a DT?

It seems wrong to put the fish through a TTM if he has absolutely no signs of anything, and I am unsure of the ramifications of using medicine, if the fish has proven to be clean.......but I am still an amateur so I wanted to get advice.

If 'you' were purchasing a DD fish, what steps, or how would your QT process be amended?

Nope I wouldn't change a thing from whatever you normally do.

I have had DD fish show up with velvet. They are generally in better condition and eating well, but they are not disease free.

I treat them the same as any other new additions. (When I used to order from them).

I had a DD butterfly that turned out to be covered in flukes.
You can never be sure.
Also, I'm not convinced that all the fish they send out have been eating well.
Quite a few I've received have refused to eat anything at all, ever.
Still, I order from DD regularly because on average their fish arrive in better condition than from most other sellers.

What are your preferred online vendors now? Always appreciated your insight and experience?

While some may have issues I would not go so far as to say they all are "not disease free"

I think QT is important, but I would not medicate a fish from DD unless they showed signs of illness. There is no reason to introduce medication to a fish that does not need it, causing stress that is not necessary. Some fish are extremely sensitive to medications, like my fairy wrasse, for example. He recently came from DD about a couple of months ago; two weeks observation in a tank by himself, no illness/problems, and now in DT still doing well. But this is just my experience.

I have been getting all of my fish from a local store that orders from the LA wholesalers.

Sure, I never said they are all infected. I have got plenty of sick DD fish over time. Enough that any fish that goes to my DT will go through my protocol and be medicated regardless of where they come from. I'm not taking any chances. I disagree that fairy wrasses are sensitive to medications. I have treated several along with macropharyngodon (8 in my DT) have all been through copper, prazi and various antibiotics when necessary.

A Wrasse is a fish that can easily carry a disease into your tank without seeing symptoms. They are less likely to show parasites even when present.

If I were going to observe I would only be comfortable doing so with a Molly present or an acanthurus tang. I would also watch them for 45-60 days before introducing to DT.
