I'm building a DYI dosing setup with my reef-pi as the controller. I'm looking for decent pumps that won't break the bank, as the price point on these things is from $5 to $90 per unit, and there is no real feedback on many of the models to do any comparison. Are there any folks here who have any experience with these dosing pumps outside of the normal vendor brands?

the best..... spectrapure. well worth the upfront investment. they are more quiet than other pumps and come with a five year warranty.

It's a diy controller, like a home made apex

if you just need a powered pump and don’t need to mess with the wiring inside, then a spectrapure should work. a lot of people use them for dosing.

I'm building a 4 head rig and just need a suitable pump. Those spectrapure pumps cost about what im looking to pay for the whole rig. Wowzers

Just for dosing

contact them to confirm which pumps you’ll need. they are a little more than $90 i believe. but factor in they are the most reliable peristaltic pumps out there, and it will be well worth it.

i’ve tried brs, avast and neptune. all louder than spectrapure. not sure about reliability as i never kept them running long enough to find out. :)

They will be in the stand with the skimmer, so noise isn't really a concern for me unless they sound like grinding gears, i should be fine with some sound. I'm not looking to spend 90+ per head, but I'm not sure i trust a $6 pump either. Adafruit has some for $24, so that might be where i go. Don't need a lexus, a basic Toyota will work for me on this.

There is a huge thread on here for the reef-pi. Might be worth looking into if you like DIY projects.
You could disassemble the peristaltic pumps from a doser if you plan on handling dosing etc from software externally. I feel like the cost of some of them are disproportionate to getting a doser.

I probably could, but i assume the pumps on their own would cost less than a doser. I've been wrong many times before, so who knows.
