Do any of you still find it important to quarantine new fish, even if it's captive-bred?

Yes. Captive bred doesn't necessarily equal disease free. Plenty of LFS sell captive bred fish, and they're right in the same tanks with all of the wild caught diseased fish. QT everything. How long and to what extent is up to you. But don't assume anything is disease free.

What if you bought it directly through the breeder?

ich can live in tanks without ever showing signs of being there. just because it came from the breeder doesn't mean there wasn't ich laying dormant in the tank

Yes especially if it has been in your LFS tanks. If it was directly from a breeder (say ORA and not some guy down the road) you may have a little more piece of mind. I would probably still hold it for observation for 30 days and run prazi because it's easy.

Okay, that's what i was thinking of doing. Just wasn't sure how alert/relaxed i should be.

I talked to the staff at ORA and they recommended QT of their fish even if they were shipped directly from the ORA facility. Better off being safe than sorry :)
