Good morning all, I did a search for this and could not find an answer so I thought I would ask.

I'm in the process of establishing my first reef tank. Small 20 gallon. I am more interested in corals than fish but even then I have plans to quarantine everything that I buy. I was curious:

If I cycle my DT, and buy a CUC and am willing to let my DT sit fallow for 76 days, would that remove the need to quarantine my initial inhabitants? I am willing to QT if necessary, but with establishing a brand new tank setting up a second tank at the same time, especially when I am not going to be buying corals or fish for some time, does seem redundant to me. But I very easily could be wrong.

I appreciate any and all advice.

I think introducing them before your fallow period is an excellent solution. I would also suggest using a tooth brush and cleaning any snail or hermit shells off with a quick brushing to remove potential pest eggs or hitchhikers.

In my opinion the biggest risk is pest hitchhikers (aptasia, vermetidae snails, bryopsis, and perhaps others), that might survive. Goodluck.

I swear i read every thread in this forum and didn't see this one. Seems to confirm my suspicions, though I'll need to scrub for hitchhikers.
Haha no worries that’s what we’re all here for
