I am about to add a fuge to my setup and am reading through the threads on different algae’s, approaches, etc. One question that came to mind - should I quarantine whatever macro I acquire (either from LFS or another reefer - not sure where I will source yet). On the surface it seems like I should - just like coral, fish, etc. but wanted to check with the experts to see what others’ experiences and approaches have been.

If you get it from a place like algeabarn or similar and its clean. I wouldn't. If you get it from a fellow reefer I would to make sure no flatworms or aptasia or other unwanted hitchhikers are lurking.

this i got some from a local coral seller and ended up getting some aiptasia in the tank luckily on the sandbed so i was able to siphon it out with ease

Thanks for the shout out. We go to EXTREME lengths to ensure that are macroalgaes are clean and pest free. I'm unaware of anyone else that goes to the same lengths.

If you can tell me more about your tank, I could help in your selection of macroalgae for you.

Cheers,
Sean

@AlgaeBarn I’m converting my existing tank over to the Triton system (along with moving the tank to the basement, upgrading equipment, etc. etc.). I have a 220 gallon mixed reef, but so far nothing too picky. Ideally I’d like a Mandarin and a Clam, but I don’t put myself in that expert category yet so it’s aspirational. Gotta get my system in line with my busy lifestyle before taking on those. That said - I’d be interested in hearing about your pods as well.

My fuge section measures 19"x 19.5" and holds approximately 21 gallons. I have a Kessil A380 lamp that I’ll use to light the fuge. I’ll be running ~2000 gph through the fuge. I’m pretty maleable here - never wanted, much less paid, for algae before . LMK what other info would help find the macro algae best for me.
