So I'm getting some new fish today. Including a mandarin and a ruby scooter. I need to quarantine with cupramine with with the rest of the fish.

Which is the best way to keep them in quarantine? Taking into account their diet.

Thanks in advance.

Humblefish mentioned nutrimar ova would be good idea to me while back to keep them eating. I haven't been brave enough to order the same fish yet lol.

Don’t put them in copper. CP or TTM seem like your safest route.

They have to go into quarantine. I just came out of fallow time for 2 months because of an ich outbreak. My concern is how to keep them fed during that time. Any ideas?

TTM, chato with pods. Ova is not available. Mini mysis, small fish eggs , or mysis. the standard fare. If they are not aquacultered they will need to be trained to eat first and with a Mandy quite often that is no small feat.

Honestly I’d grab a second small tank and set it up for the red and tha Mandy. They have similar speciafic needs.

Ok. I just got another mandarin, spotted mandarin. Beautiful fish. The first one is alive and well in my DT now.

I have been feeding mysis shrimp to this guy every day. I hatch the eggs and give it the shrimp. Sadly it seems to be loosing weight. I can see signs of sunken belly. Which is not a good sign.

The fish eats every time I throw mysis into the tank. So my fear it's that bit getting enough.

I even did a feeding station with a bottle and filling it with shrimps but the fish won't go in.

The QT is under cupramine treatment so I cant throw a bunch of mysis because they will die and become ammonia.

Any ideas on how to do it better?

Thanks in advance.

Wow. How long are you keeping them in copper? What levels are you keeping them at? It is remarkable that it is still kicking. Usually they are very intolerant of copper. #reefsquad this is a new one!

Well this one is just entering the first week.

The other one was there for almost a month.

Both eating and everything looks fine except for the situation that I explained above.

Mandarins are notoriously difficult to QT, because they almost always require live 'pods, and 'pods won't do well in copper or CP. They're supposed to be intolerant of copper, but I recently brought my target mandarin through a month of copper. I'm putting part of that success down to the possibility that she's picking up _some_ frozen food, though clearly an inadequate amount, and part of it down to the fact that she was a _zeppelin_ going in. She's now very thin, but back in the display, happily hunting.

Be aware that your blue? mandarin and target mandarin may not get along well once they're in the same tank together.

Well I have being feeding baby brine shrimp that I hatch. It's not eating frozen thats for sure.

I have a male in the main tank, this one it's a female. There shouldnt be to much trouble. I hope it makes it since it's a beautiful fish.

As for the copper I have not seen any reaction both times. Maybe it's because of the pruduct? I'm using cupramine...

It doesn't matter if the fish is eating Mysis once a day. This fish can't survive like that. It needs a constant, steady supply of pods in the display tank. It needs to constantly eat (like several copepods a minute) since it doesn't have a way to digest bigger foods.

How big is the tank? How long has is been set up? How much rock? Do you have a fuge?

It's a QT tank, so it's barebottom. Some pvc and chaeto in there. Cascade filter and that's all.

I'm not saying the fish is getting that once a day. It gets fed several times. I will increase to see if there are any changes.

Hopefully yes

I see you've been feeding baby brine too. Is it eating that?

A 30 day qt in copper for a mandarin seems really difficult for this fish. I understand you want to do everything to keep ich out of your display. Have you though about tank transfer method instead?

Yeah, it's eating that. It's the same food I used with the other one and seems to work.

Now there is ich in QT because I can see the fish scratching, not the mandarin tho. But I have to be careful.

30 days it's my minimum. I have to get out of the country and need to transfer them to the DT before I go.

I will not risk hundreds of dollars for one fish. Sadly I had two Wipeouts and I will not risk it again.
