Morning Reefers,

I wanted to find out what everyone's thoughts were on shared quarantine?

I am researching for my first build and getting really excited. Although, as I began to plan I realized that I need to set up my quarantine in conjunction or prior to my tank, so that I can quarantine an LPS and fish to stock my tank with once it has completed it's cycle. What I am curious about is quarantine practice. I've read several threads providing varying views of how to go about setting up, monitoring, and generally completing the quarantine process. What I am unclear on is basic practice with regard to the number animals in the quarantine tank. For example, if I purchased an LPS frag and a single fish to stock my tank from my LFS, out of two different tanks; Could I quarantine both in the same setup? Would it be better to have two different setups or purchase them in intervals? Any advice you can provide would be helpful.

Thanks!

I'll do multipe fish in a QT. Assuming I get them at the same time, that way the medication is on the same schedule for everyone. This is also assuming they will not pick on each other in the 20 long that I use.

But coral, no. If you plan to use copper on the fish, the coral should have its own QT.

I'm pretty strict about my QT components as well. Everything from heaters to nets will never touch anything outside of that QT. They are dedicated to that purpose. I don't want to cross contaminate with another QT and certainly not with the DT.

Thanks Smartwater101. I greatly appreciate your input. It should prove helpful. Any recommendations on quarantine builds or setups?

Thanks again.

I prefer 20 longs or 40 breeders depending on the size of the fish being quarantined.
I then use aqua clear HOBs for filtration if I am doing something other than TTM. TTM gets a filter sponge bubbler.
Small but decent heaters if needed. I do not need them in our house, as the water sites at 74 with a properly sized HOB going.
clip on light is all that is needed for fish. No need for a hydra over a fish QT.
Aquarium glass cover for a 20 long to reduce evap

Basically, 50-75 bucks at most for a good 20 long setup while petco has the dollar per gallon sale going. The biggest thing is ammonia management. There are a ton of options from prime, to water changes with the copper or CP already dosed in the water, bottle bacteria every few days, etc.

Thanks Eagle_Steve. I appreciate the information. It doesn't sound unreasonable and is something I think I can achieve. What series HOBs are you running?

I appreciate the Welcome!

Best, NR
