Quarantine process

Ok so I'm about to quarantine a fish and I'm aware that you are to empty and clean the tank to sterilize any other things that could have been left in the QT from the previous fish, the issue is I have chosen to have sand in my quarantine tank so I'm wondering what I should do there? Wait the 8-10 weeks for anything to die off in the water without a fish host or is the sand fine? not sure thanks.

I would remove and replace the sand.
Otherwise you could run the tank with 10% bleach, then rinse with tap & dechlorinator.
