So looking at setting up a quarantine tank for a few tangs bought a 30 gl tank with a 3 tray canister filter. 1 I was wondering what medications people generally use on tangs in quarantine tanks? 2 what media would you run in a canister filter for a quarantine tank?

I use copermine in quarenteen. I would use a hob filter and not a canister.
It would be a lot easyer to keep clean and maintain.

Ya that's what Ive seen but the canister came with the tank is there no way to make use of it?

I would say for tangs treating with Cupramine and then Prazipro (or vice versa) would be prudent.

My How to QT guide can be found here with more detailed info: http://reef2reef.com/threads/how-to-quarantine.189815/

I have looked it over couple questions. 1 could I run seachem matrix and brs lignite carbon in the canister, obviously taking out the carbon if running copper treatments.
2 could you use the plastic type decorative caves that you see in freshwater displays instead of pvc fittings?

Yes

So long as they are SW safe, yes. But you will need to keep a close eye on the Cu level for possible absorption.

Prazipro with some form of a copper medication. Make sure the fish are eating before you medicate the tank. Medication suppresses appetite which may affect a fish's ability to fight infections and parasites.

Can Cupramine and Prazipro be ran together or is that to stressful on the fish?

They can, but the presence of copper diminishes praziquantel's overall effectiveness. It also will cut back on available O2 in the water and further suppress appetite (especially for wrasses who seem to hate all medications ;)). Therefore, I advocate only combining them in an emergency situation and not for prophylactic treatment.
