Hello everyone! I am in the middle of doing a treatment on 3 fish in my quarantine tank but my ammonia is creeping up little by little. So I'm on day 3 of using Maracyn Oxy and it says to use it for 5 days max. If I do a water change right now to help bring down the ammonia levels will that mess the progress of that medicine? Fyi, first time doing quarantine.

Right now my ammonia level is reading roughly between 0.2 - 0.4

I’m not familiar with the medication you are using but when using copper or formalin, you need to calculate how much of the medication you will remove in the water to be changed then add the same amount into the new water before replacing

This is the treatment I'm using now. This is my first time doing quarantine so I got this stuff and they had the copper version also. I'll post a pic of that too. If I were to do a 50% water change on a 10 gal tank what I would I do to determine the amount of medicine removed?

I think this product is what was known as "Maroxy" back in the day (1970's). I never found it to be of any real benefit. What are you using it to treat for?

It is apparently sodium chlorite, an oxidizer. That is where they must get the "oxy" part of the name. I do know, without a doubt, that sodium chlorite inhibits nitrifying bacteria. Back in the 1980's a public aquarium used it to try and treat ich. They wiped out their filter bed in a 500,000 gallon system and ended up buying pallets of dry Amquel to manage the issue.

You just measure exactly how much water you removed, and then redose proportionally. At ten gallon tank usually only holds around 8.5 gallons of water though.

This is the copper treatment I bought.

I bought the maracyn oxy because it said it treats for fungal infections so I figured okay I would have that base covered. I don't have any good lfs close so basically I have petco and for medicines this is all they had.
