Good morning all,

I currently have my little 10-gallon QT set up to house corals and inverts, which I think are okay to QT together..... right?

For reference, my display tank is 38 gallons, cycled, but completely empty.

Just a few questions:

I'm sure this is a no-no, but I have been adding corals from different places to the tank a few days apart. I have 2 more coming tomorrow, then I'm done until I get them all in the display, scout's honor! I have been dipping in ReVive and Bayer prior to adding.

My first question is: Do I need to reset the 30-day clock every time I add a new coral/invert? I have a few snails I am adding today to help with my GHA problem, but that's all I will be adding as far as inverts, unless I don't have to keep resetting the QT clock and can move some corals out.

Second question: I have Nassarius snails I will be adding to the QT today; do I need to add a cup of sand or anything to the tank or will they be alright bare bottom until I move them to the display?

Third question: I would really like to move the snails into my display as soon as I can, but I don't want to introduce anything yucky.... I suppose it must be necessary to give these guys the full 45 days in the QT or does it matter since I don't have any fish (or anything for that matter) in my display as of yet?

Last question: When I am ready to use my 10-gallon as a fish quarantine, how would I go about cleaning & sanitizing it before I use it for that purpose? For that matter, would it be the same process going back to a coral/invert QT from a fish QT?

Thank you all so much in advance!

corals and inverts can be together in QT, as long as the are compatible already (example: hammers/frogspawn eaten by peppermint shrimp or emerald crab)

Yes, QT should restart each new addition else risk newbie giving oldie something that goes to DT on oldie

I'd scrub snail shells then put in DT. Never QT'd snails but like the idea and wondering if I missed opportunity - good for you!

Clean using light bleach and rinse, rinse then air dry some say in sun

If your fish QT ever also becomes fish HT (hospital tank) then anything porous used must likely be tossed as some medications/copper can leach in and then forever be dangerous to inverts. For that reason, I use ugly different size PVC pipes cut up for my QT 'decorations' and 'comfort caves' - on my local club website I was able to get small lengths so I didn't have to spend a lot or store leftovers ... storage is always problem for me

Thank you so much for the advice!

I didn't scrub the shells because I had nothing on hand to do it with (darn it), but everybody is in quarantine currently. I haven't seen any movement from my 4 astreas, which has me worried. My 4 nassarius and spiny astrea are motoring around happily, though, so I don't think it could be due to my water parameters.

Maybe they just take longer to get comfy? Or maybe they're dead....

The clock doesn't restart when adding new inverts as the ich doesn't have a fish host to land on and progress the life cycle back to the cyst stage.

I took a look through that and it looks like Humblefish already answered as you said! Thank you very much!

As long as you gave everything a good rinse before going in. :)

but I would restart unless you are keeping track of each snail. You don’t know when the cysts formed on each snail.
I just do 45 days at 82 degrees and start counting from the last addition. Makes it easy.

Sure did, I dip everything (except the inverts) in ReVive and Bayer, so hopefully that does the trick!
