hey all. I’ve found tons of helpful info on here about quarantining coral but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I need help w the actual tank. I have a 20 gallon w regular tube lighting that came w it. Nothing fancy. HOB filter. Heater. I’m not doing anything advanced. No hard corals. Starting w a leather.

So, let’s say I get it home, now what?
What’s in the tank? DT water and a few inverts to help keep it cycled?
Float acclimate 45 min, w lights out, match salinity. Now what? Does it go on the bottom of the tank to acclimate to lighting? Read conflicting info re light cycle in qt.
Dip? How often?
It’s staying in qt for 76 days so it needs to be an appropriate environment.
I’m not advacanced enough to remove it from plug and reattach to new plug.
Am I over complicating things or is it really this hard?

TIA R2R ers :)

I would start the coral out on the bottom and see how it does. I’d dip them before they go in q/t. Usually qt tanks don’t have sand. You could use a sponge filter that you float in the dt sump to seed it with beneficial bacteria. It’s not that hard, and sounds like you have a good plan.

I'm going to piggyback on this thread - I have the exact same setup right now (getting ready to tear it down from a previous fish QT). Do I need to concern myself with waterflow? I could always buy another powerhead, but it seems like somewhat of a waste.....

Ok. So that post is from a whole ago. I’ve got a few corals now and can assure you that you absolutely do need to worry about flow. Flow and light are HUGE. Good luck.
