Hey guys, I am looking into having a quarantine tank for fish that I can break down and only use as needed. I’ve been wanting to add a powder blue tang, and have been convinced that it really needs to be quarantined first. I’m thinking a 10-20 gal tank. Is that big enough? This will be my first time doing any kind of quarantine so I’m really not sure what I’ll need. Suggestions for parts and supplies would be great along with medications and supplements I should be dosing. Thanks!

Depends of course, on the size of the tang, but IMO a ten gallon is too small for any PBT you are likely to see for sale. A lot of people convert big plastic bins for this use, but I would advise against it, as clear lateral is vital in order to assess the fish during the process. Go with a 20 long at a minimum. Have the biofilter strongly operational before you get any fish. Have all your meds purchased in advance. My basic quarantine method is 30 days of copper (using a Hanna checker or good test kit) followed by two weeks of 3 prazi treatment, followed by 2 more weeks of just observation. I won't say it is foolproof, but it usually works - unless the fish get Neobenedenia, then you have to run 35 days of hypo (which might sub for the copper treatment, at least for ich).
