Quarantine Tank filter media?

Getting my quarantine tank together I have a whisper HOB filter. And using marine pure from my DT sump to seed bacteria in QT. Are you running the media/carbon cartridges on your quarantine HOB filters too?

No media or carbon. Just filter floss. Filter floss won't absorb any of the meds being ran in QT.

It depends whether you are running medication or not. If not then running a little carbon can be helpful, but not necessary. If you are running copper, then you don’t want anything that will absorb it that you can’t either dispose of later or retain for only copper dosing purposes.

In my case I just QT to monitor and raise salinity (unless I see an issue), so I will run ceramic noodles and carbon.

How are people checking salinity in their QTs. I have one of the Hanna salinity/temp probes but scared to use it in my QT because I'm scared of cross contamination.

I'm using Seachem matrix. doesn't absorb copper so far as I've measured for the last three weeks in my new QT. Matrix helped me start my QT since I didn't have a filter pad culturing in an established tank being that I am new to reefing.
