ok guys I have a 90 gallon that will be a reef and I really want to start a quarantine tank. I have 2 options I have a 55 that I could do or a 20 tall. How much filtration and what should I put in it as far as medication. Also I know no sand but should I use a structure for the fish? How long do y'all quarantine your fish? Thanks for the help guys.
Just so y'all can see this is my current setup. The hood is something a tossed together to hold my lights until I get my hanging kit for my lights so forget it's there. LOL

A good option would be to use the 55 as an untreated quarantine with the 20 available as an emergency hospital tank. That way you can avoid any medications that would kill the biological filter in the quarantine.

In general though, a 20-30 gallon long tank would probably be large enough for whatever will eventually go in your display tank. I am assuming you are not planning any full size angels ;)

No I'm not. I have a flame already and don't plan on any more. I already have 6 fish in my DT and only plan to add 4 more one of will be a purple tang. I just don't know if the wife will let me do 2 more tanks, she might hang me lol. might look for a cheap 40 breeder and use it.

Petco has (or recently had) their $1 per gallon sale going. Also, you wouldn't need to leave the hospital tank set up full time :)

Good point LOL. I still have to get her to let me do one more. Already have 2 going. I have the 90 pictures above and a 29 gallon biocube that I got for free off craigslist. The Pump was not working and the light was not working the light is trashed the power cable is been chewed through but I bought a pump for $30 and it's now running.
Here is the 29

Got my quarantine set up today. I am using the 15. Got to put lights on it tomorrow because it has an occupant comming either tomorrow or Saturday.

I believe you can get away with the 20 gal no problem it would really depend on how many fish you are going to qt at the same time. As for medication you shouldn't be putting any meds in unless you are treating a specific issue. I quarantine for a minimum of 4 week from the last sign of any issues. I dont use any lights, just 4 inch pvc pipe with sponge filters and a heater. You can also put in a power filter to help more some water around. Best of luck
