After 24 hours stocked with Yellow Tang, Kole Tang and Hawkfish, here are my readings...

Temp 78 degrees
Salinity 1.022
Ph 8.0
Am 0
NO2 0
NO3 between 5 and 10ppm - I have the damndest time reading that color chart

Seems all is well. When should I do my first water change? Weekly unless something spikes or should I do a proactive one after a few days?

Final tank layout below. Thanks for all your help getting me educated on this!

I try and do as few water changes as possible. I'll do it if I see ammonia on my alert badge (haven't had it happen yet!) or if nitrates get above 100ppm. Otherwise, I think it helps with stability.

I too just started my qt. My kole tang and royal gramma came thurs. The royal started eating from the start and is always out and about. My kole tang surprisingly looks good and today started eating seaweed pellets and nori sheets. He has what looks to be a bacterial? Infection on his side and a ragged fin but I think it's just from fighting with other fish or something. I'm going to see if he can improve on his own. The only water changes I'm doing right now is just replacing water when I suck out uneaten food.

So now that I'm in bed with the QT the next question is whether to proactively medicate or take the observation route and only medicate if I see something. I was reading a blog post from Advanced Aquarist (from 2012) where he suggest medicating Prazipro and Cupramine no matter what during the process. Then Maracyn Two if any symptoms surface...

Any thoughts on this? How do others treat their tank during QT?

I pretreat everything. If its a fish, it gets copper or CP before going to my DT. There is no way to know if a fish is "clean" or if it only looks clean because of its immune system. If you take a fish that shows no symptoms but is a low level carrier of Ich/Velvet and put it in your DT, you can compromise the health of any other fish you put in with it.

not worth the risk in my opinion.

I plan on just observing and only medicating if needed. But I also plan to qt for about 8wks.

My LFS runs copper in their systems... would that be enough or do you think it's prudent to treat again.

As always, thanks for the advice.

I do not think that is enough. Most LFS do not run enough copper in their systems to eliminate parasites. It only helps limit their numbers to keep the fish looking healthier. My LFS runs less than 1/4 the recommended amount of copper in their system.
it's been two days and i'm already dying to get them into my DT !!
I feel your pain! At the VERY LEAST I would do at least 10 days in copper prior to putting them in your DT. You may not catch everything with this shortened process but you will eliminate Ich and Velvet.
