I live in Massachusetts and we had a 24 hour blackout a few days ago. During this blackout, I grabbed an extension cord I was using to run my quarantine tank (it was empty; just live rock and sand) in the basement to run from our emergency generator to another part of the house and just remembered last night that my QT was still unplugged. The water temperature is 54 degrees right now. Did I kill all the beneficial bacteria? It was cold for about four days.

I don't think so. you could add a little food and then test for ammonia in a couple of days to be safe.

When questions like this come into my mind in revert back to how MOTHER EARTH handles things....

Think.of all the cold coastlines with frigid water temperatures. Pretty sure the live bacteria is keeping the coastlines balanced for Marine Life.

One basic rule i know is that the colder the water, the more living things have their Metabolism slow down.

Opposite is true. The hotter things are the faster the Metabolism

.

65-85 degrees is the normal window for BB.
Above 95, will kill.
54 is getting low whereas they would become less active, maybe you lose some, but not enough to cause any long term issue.
You can always add some by bottle.
