would it be worth my time and money to setup a quarantine tank to treat all my fish before putting into new setup? and would you just buy a full marine setup like red sea or a normal tank with just canister filter or the seachem 70 hang on filter looks ok" would you use a skimmer ?

Yes and I wouldn't spend the money on a Red Sea. You can setup a QT tank for less than $100 really why spend $1,000 for display quality tank.

Depends - quarantine is the risk factor of putting fish into a system, knowing that a new fish can wipe out others if its particularly bad off. For your first fish? I don't - the risk factor, depending on the disease, is that you need to keep that tank fallow of fish for awhile in the case of ich and parasites.

QT is also stressful and does require work to maintain more so than your display tank.

Worth it? Worth your DT and then some...definitely do it.

As far as aesthetics...keep it simple. Doesn't have to be large or fancy. HOB filtration and skimmer is fine as long as it can support and provide life for the bacteria and inhabitants. When I QT fish only, I didn't use a skimmer as I was constant performing WC's. My DT is 125 gallons and started with $500 worth of fish when I started the hobby.

Months later, my largest and prized fish, 8in Blonde Naso came down with an infection that I could've treated had I QT him. Long story short, i all of the fish within a week.

Do yourself a favor and set one up. It pays for itself

I agree with this.

thanks for replys" my DT is 6ft 2ft 2ft and just about to start setting up after getting most my items" was going to be fish only but really wont sps and a powder blue tang and some type of angelfish"

whot size QT ? would you buy say a 5ft tank and split with divider for each fish? and how much water do you change each week? do you keep running after all your fish have bean treated and in MT

Anytime. FWIW, some angelfish have a habit of nipping at corals. If you have the budget and depending on the size and quantity of fish you want to have, I recommend having separate QT tanks if you're going with multiple tangs or angels.

Independently, if you add fish at different times and let a few fish go through the process before adding new ones, one QT tank will be fine. This is helpful if you wont have fish that areaggressive towards the same species.

If you plan to have small less aggressive fish, one 20 gallon tank, preferably long will be sufficient. A 5ft tank with a divider is doable but not suggested as if one fish have ich or any other diseases, the fish on the other side of the divide could also become ill and so forth.

I had dirty fish so I performed 25-50% WC's while fish were in QT while treating for copper and other diseases in case.

Leave the tanks running for as long as you continue to add fish or feel you may impulse buy others as you go. I left my QT tanks running until I finished adding all my fish.

Shortly after I took them down, and now it takes away the urge and temptation to buy new fish a year later :)

Do you still have to do the full new tank cycle and wait a few weeks to mature in a QT tank/tanks as your changing 25-50% each week to help lower ammonia

Depends. If you already have your DT up and running and it's already cycles, you can use the media, sand, rock, and water to seed your QT tank. If your DT has not cycled then yes.

In regards to ammonia, that's the reason why I was performing water changes. I treated my fish with copper so that killed off the bacteria and I changed the water as a precautionary measure. Some people QT fish without treating, primarily as a means to observe their fish first.

I'm also a little OCD when it comes to the tank now since my first lesson I mentioned earlier. I'm not crazy, I promise lol

Yes it is worth it to you. But as to how far you want to go on the QT tanks depends on how long in QT type/size of fish and what sort of "treatment" you are going to do. If you are new to saltwater then I would follow some of the suggestions that Humblefish and others make. You prob dont know where your fishies have been or what to look for in sick or healthly fish.
The first thing in QT to address is to get the fish eating and being comfortable. Stress kills a lot of fish.
So do as I say and not as I do. I will leave it at that.

are tangs and angelfish ok with copper? was going to use seachem cupramine in half dose but for longer spell so get the full dose over longer time!

do you freshwater dip your fish before putting into QT tank mate? and lot of people run there QT at low salinity for wile also don't they?

For the tangs I used cupramine. Some say doing just that can be effective, others say not if the fish is tolerant to lower levels. Do you research in that area as I'm not certain how accurate that is.

No, been very hesitant to do this. You are correct that many run their tanks at hyposalinity.
