So I’m setting up a quarantine tank for my only fish I have left after a velvet or ich outbreak. He has been looking good for a month but I’m going to take him out and let the tank run fallow for the 76 days and treat him just in case. I took 10 gallons out of my display and put a couple sponges in there that I had in the display for a month. How do I know when it’s safe to put the fish in the quarantine tank.

A month is long enough ..couple of weeks is also good ...let it sit for a couple of days in your QT before adding your fish ...also make sure you have an ammonia badge in your QT..as most ammonia tests wont work if you use copper too treat your fish

I have an ammonia badge. I’ll put the fish in this weekend and probably wait a couple weeks to treat with copper

Let me rephrase this the quarantine tank is only been up 3 days but since I used water from my display and the sponges I assume its good?

Im wondering the same thing. I was going to set up my spare 10g, but if i use 10g out of my display it should be good on day 1 correct?

I would use half new water, half old water. I would have put some filter pads or sponges in the display tank to build up some bacteria on it (about 2 weeks) and I would use that in the QT tank. This is what I did a while back. I now have the QT setup permanently like another tank. Granted it’s a 20 gallon tank and I did test for everything before adding fish. I also added live nictrofying bacteria since I had a full bottle laying around.
