My tank is 10 months old. I bought my tank, fish, everything from one store. The owner even set my tank up for $375 dollars. He & his staff seemed nice & knowledgeable. When my tank was ready I began to buy fish one by one. I asked several times about quarantining the fish and several times I was told NOT necessary. Everything was fine until the 1st of April when my husband purchased 4 fish & 2 shrimp for my tank as an anniversary gift. All was well for about 2 weeks THEN what I thought was ick and was advised to treat as ick turned out to be marine velvet. It was too late and all 15 fish are dead. I have kept records of fish bought, salt water changes, water testing, when I cleaned socks & skimmer.......I have done everything I was told...I reached out the owner and he basically said it happens & he stands by his no quarantine policy. I have since bought a quarantine tank, have done regular water changes & wont attempt to buy anymore fish for 12+ weeks. Any other advice? A pic of my beautiful tank, empty tank.........

TraZ sorry to hear the disappointing news. I am not an expert on Qtanks but having just went through a very similar issue I will take better care in the future. I had a very nice tank with nice fish and took a risk with a new fish and booooom! I as well have lost a bunch of fish. My display tank was well but it had ich from a previous build. But in my main tank I never saw the ich unless "stress" came about but it would go away very quickly. I introduced a new Tang and that was the trigger point. We put to much time, effort and money into this hobby not to practice proper acclimation of the things we buy. These fish we buy have seen multiple systems by the time they see our system, bad equation, they need time to heal, acclimate and oh my gosh I the new fish from the ocean just saw a pellet food float by that I never saw in the ocean, huuum? So in short, very sorry for your loss and experience and running a Qtank is not a bad thing, protection, it may not be perfect protection but the odds are higher for success.

Thanks for the reply. I have since bought the "bible" of marine fish and I am doing my own research. I will never trust another store owner to provide any credible information. I have found lots of his advice is inaccurate and would lead to more loss of fish. My conclusion is this guy really only cares about money. I'm patiently waiting for July to come so I can begin again.
