I have a Clown Fairy Wrasse in a 10g quarantine tank. I got him from NYAquatics. He says he medicates all his fish. I have been reading about Wrasse having Velvet and I'm very nervous about putting him in my DT tank. He looks good and eats well. Help what should I do.

I have purchased several Wrasse from NY. He does really great with Wrasse, I have a lineatus and pintail supermale in QT now from him. I still treated them across the board. Copper, prazi, food soaked ABX.

I don't know exactly what his protocol is but the only way to be 100% sure is to treat it yourself.

Wrasse especially, are great at carrying parasites without outward symptoms.

Is there a one medication solution? Something that is easy to use

I sure wish there was. Pharmacuetical grade CP covers most parasite related issues.

Then praziquantel for a deworming med.

Problem is with Wrasse, alot of people have had issues with them tolerating CP, more recently I have seen people using CP on them with success.

No one medication treats all diseases. At the very least, I would observe him in a QT before placing in your DT. Most disease issues present themselves (or the fish dies) within 30 days.

Thanks for the link. I'm reading that CP is not good for Wrasse.
** Based upon anecdotal experience (mine and others), DO NOT USE CP on Anthias, Wrasses or Hippo Tangs. For the time being, chelated copper (exs. Coppersafe, Copper Power) is the best alternative to use on these species. **

Highly recommend the use of Copper Power. The strength and dosage is right on the money. And if you add in a Hanna HL Copper Checker, you are all set. The thing is awesome. Had a wrasse in QT with copper and was using the API test kit. Color looked good on the test kit, so I thought ok. But the wrasse stopped eating and was swimming a bit off. My new Hanna HL Copper Checker came in the mail. Used it and truth was the fish was over dosed at 2.80 ppm. Did a few water changes and used the Hanna. You could see the copper level dropping. Settled on 1.75 ppm. The wrasse started eating and swimming normally within a few hours. It's currently happy and healthy in my DT. Highly recommend the Hanna HL Copper Checker. :)

So if my fish shows no signs of ich can I use Copper Power as a preventative?

+1 for the Hanna- Dr. Humblefish said his new qt with wrasses is copper(I think he said copper power) at 1.75. But I think he treats for 14 days then moves them to a clean observation tank for a couple of weeks. I have a new mystery wrasse. Not sure how I will qt. He is in a qt with several non wrasse species. I will prob do copper power at 1.75 for all. It seems important to titrate the copper and add partial doses over several days. Your Qt clock doesn’t start until level is at least 1.5.
