Quarantine yellow tang

We got a yellow tang from algae barn and wondering when getting cbb fish from sources like this how long do you actually qt the fish? I have heard from sources like this people will drop right in dt and others will qt yellow tangs for MONTHS.

There are numerous threads - and numerous discussions.

First - what is your definition of QT - is it observation? Is it Observation with medication if sick? Is it QT with multiple medications?

Depending on which version of 'QT' you are asking about - there is a different answer.

Second - what is in your tank now? Is there any other history of disease? I'm assuming that CBB - means captive bred fish (normally thats an abbreviation for 'copper band butterfly'). If there is a possibility for disease to be present in your tank without knowing - I would make sure that the fish is in great health, eating, etc - before putting him/her in - just to avoid your fish transferring something to it.

Third - as a captive bred fish, that should not have been exposed to diseases. So - if its healthy, etc - and assuming you trust your source (Algaebarn) - its probably safe to add directly to your tank IMHO

Yes I ment captive breed and born yellow tang. The qt is just a bare bottom 15 gal. Only doing filter. I treated with prazipro just to be safe but hopefully I do not need to use other meds. Was mainly using it to observe if anything happened or arises. The yellow tang is not liking the qt. Super super skittish. Worse than when we had discus. Hope he is more confident in the dt when time arises.

My point was - make sure its eating, healthy, etc - if its captive raised - there should be no reason to treat it with anything at all. Anything you treat it with, though, will not help if the fish in your main tank are harboring a parasite - thus the recommendation to get it fattened up.
