Quarantine?

Just wondering how long people are keepi g new fish in quarantine. Does time frame depend on type of fish you have or if they look healthy? Or do you have a strict time frame? I normally do about 3-4 weeks if fish show no signs of ailments and are eating good.

I am new to hobby. Just picked up my first fish last night. Two snowflake clowns. Brought to temp in nag in tank for 20 minutes then a drip acclimation for 45 min then into qt tank. They didn't seem stressed too much. No heavy breathing or going Nuts and 24 hours later they look great. Nervous being my first fish

I am doing tank transfer method to swith to new sterile tank every 72 hours four times with prazipro at the end of cycle 2 and 4 before going into fully cycled qt tank where I am keeping for min 4 weeks provided stay healthy then will put into dt.

Also have cycled qt tank seperate for invertabrates which will keep them in for 3 to 4 weeks before putting into dt


Anyway that's my current method based on discussions and research on here

The catch to that can be that if the fish were kept in sub-therapeutic levels of copper before you got them, ich and velvet may take up to a month to reach a sort of "critical mass" where they really begin to show their ugly little faces. That could be right after you drop those fish into your display . . .

I generally treat preventatively with Coppersafe and Praziquantel, and I'm still not certain that'll work every single time.

I treat with prazipro but haven't done any copper treatment. 2 years ago I lost all my fish and don't want to see anything like that again. I was being lazy and didn't quarantine the last 2 fish. Some of those fish was with me for nearly 4 years. That hurt.
I want to do it the right way this go round. I like the idea of the ttm but don't have the ability to do it that way.

I do TTM and Praziquantel for all new additions, followed by a couple weeks of observation. I usually let the fish settle in for a couple weeks first in order to get accustomed to captive life and get on a solid feeding schedule. This provides adequate time for velvet or brook symptoms to present.

Depends for me. Last time between observation and copper treatment they were in QT for a total of 4 weeks. Right now, I'm doing TTM for an engineer goby since it's scaleless and can't handle copper while running a melanarus wrasse and another goby through copper. After TTM the engineer goby will go into a 60 cube for 2-3 weeks for observation. Same with the other two after copper. All three have gone through two rounds of prazi. I'll probably watch them for 2-3 weeks before putting them in the DT. All three displayed some flashing early on but that went away after the first round of prazi.

Regarding copper, I use the 14 days and then into another sterile tank approach and is why I'll likely watch them for at least two weeks. Copper is poison and not enough research has been done, that I've read anyway, that addresses whether extended copper exposure has a negative impact long term on the fish we QT. So I'm trying to limit copper exposure to as short a period as possible and I guess we'll see if it works to eradicate ich/velvet. Just have to test frequently, almost daily, to ensure copper stays at at least minimum levels.
