Question hoping someone can give me some solid advice. Bought a puffer & trigger about 2 weeks ago and place them in a 55 quarantine tank without any medication such as copper, Prazi etc.... Both look healthy and show no signs of Ick etc.... I presently have a 600 gallon fish only that I'm treating with copper power for ick going into last week (makes 30 days) of medication. My questions is two folded should I place copper in quarantine tank even if they look healthy for 14 days or should I leave as is for a couple of more weeks before placing them in main tank. Second question is should I place the two in my main tank which I have one more week of copper power which will make it a 30 day treatment?
Thanks for your time!

Are you checking levels of copper on your large tank (i.e. 2x / day and keeping it above the level you want it to be at?) - CI can be present on fish for longer than 14 days - velvet has been shown to be viable on fish after 65 days (with no symptoms) - which is why aquaria use at least a90 day QT TIME (WITHOUT TREATMENT). Sorry about the caps

If you are treating all of your other fish for ich, why wouldn't you treat these too?

How did you get ich in the first place? Did you add fish knowing they had ich?

If it were me I would treat the new fish prophylactically since you will have an ich free tank (that's just me).

Thought everyone added was ick free since everyone was quarantine up to 21 days, just was wondering if quarantine should be medicated have so many different opinions on it. I really appreciate your feed back and advice, Thanks

You will get answers all across the board on that. I can't say there is a right or wrong way. If I were going to observe fish without meds I would say it needs to be more like 60-90 days before it was clear. There are several fish out there especially fish that have thick slime coats like Wrasse, clowns, gobies etc. That can be exposed to ich for long periods of time and never show a symptom even though they are a carrier. The prevalance of velvet and other common pathogens is why I choose to treat all of my new additions prophylactically.

Thanks for the Advice Carl

indeed you will get differing opinions; I prefer to never medicate until a fish shows signs of disease in need of treatment, but I still do isolate new fish before introducing the into display tank.
