Good Afternoon -

I am getting back in to the hobby and plan on quarantining my corals and fish way better than I did first time around. I just had a couple questions:

1- how long would you typically quarantine a fish and do you still quarantine even if your LFS says they quarantined and ran low levels of copper?
2- Can I use the same quarantine tank for new fish and new corals or would I need to have those separate?
3- If I were to have some dips or tricks on hand for new fish what do you guys recommend I use as far as brands/dips go?

Hopefully this isn't too broad a question but it may be. I didn't do a good job quarantining the 1st go around, I typically drip acclimated and then put in to tank. Hoping I can set up a small bio cube or use my current 20 gallon tank with a heater and filter on it and that would be good enough for a QT tank. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

1, Low levels of copper are done to increase temporary survival rates to increase profits. I would avoid any shop that admits to doing that. It's just cruel. People buy fish from them and then ich, velvet, etc. come roaring back quickly killing the fish. Sad. The truth is, the only QT you can trust is your own.
Usual routine is 30 days of copper and then 2 doses of a prazi product like General Cure or Prazipro & Metroplex done 5-7 days apart.
2. Can't put corals in copper treating tanks or most meds. Most have 2 QTs. Or alternate, just cleaning to remove copper/meds from QT and equipment.
3. Dips for coral: I use Bayer for ridding bugs and Coral RX and sometimes Lugoils for injured/damaged corals.
For fish: Freshwater dip to check for flukes. Bath in Ruby Reef Rally it's antiseptic and antibiotic pre-treatment for copper. Copper Power brand copper. Hanna HL copper checker to easily and confidently maintain therapeutic levels. General Cure for de-worming/flukes treatment.
Antibiotics to have on hand: Metroplex, Kanaplex, and Furan2
I use 20 gallons for my QTs ;)

Awesome info! Thanks everyone. I will be looking in to those articles and the brs video. Now that everyone called me out on it I remember reading you can't put Coral in Copper! Dang, so glad I put a thread up :)
