Currently have a quarantine tank with sponge filter. Do I need a wavemaker or a sponge filter is enough?

What size tank? Having some water movement to keep detritus/fish poo up so the filter can catch it would be best.

10 gallon

Adding a small HOB filter to add water movement and surface agitation for C02/02 exchange could help. Most powerheads may be too large for that tank size. Once again, to turn over the water enough to stir up detritus. Sponge filter/air stone with a pump may not be enough.

I use a 20 long with a HOB pinwheel filter in my QT tank. Just enough to turn over the tank volume for water movement.

I have a little power head in my 10 gallon coral QT. Just make sure you are getting something rated for a tank that small. Something like a maxi jet 400 with the power head attachment installed can work if angled appropriately.
