OK, so I am in the process of cycling 40 gallon tank. I just added CUC. Snails and Hermit Crabs. I am now watching some videos and reading about Ick.

What i see is that every fish, without exception, even my first fish, should be quarantined 14 days before adding to my main tank.

What about CUC? I already added them.

So is it true that every single fish needs to be quarantined? And does that include CUC?

If you are qting with ich in mind, the tank needs to be without fish for 72 days.. it is ok to add inverts but the clock must be reset each time...

After first treated fish are added to tank, any further inverts or coral should be kept in a separate tank with no fish for 72 days prior to adding to display

Qt should be performed in separate tank with whatever method you decide, I would use copper and general cure for two weeks, followed by an observation period of a further month or so to be sure nothing pops up.. you could also worm the fish during this time with prazipro soaked food..

For more delicate fish I would use the tank transfer method.

Go to humble fish’s website of the same name to read on QT methods

Not really with ick in mind, but just basic quarantine when buying a new fish to avoid ick or any other disease. Thanks.

Ye, basically as above for majority of what you’re likely to encounter...nothing is 100% but this will set you right

You can use a saltwater acclimated molly fish (black one is best) to introduce to your QT once medication has been removed after treating as a “test” to see if parasites have been successfully removed...this is a relatively new method in the hobby and the theory is as the molly will have no immunity to saltwater pathogens they are pretty much guaranteed to catch anything that is present...and with the fish being black, makes it easier to spot...

Quarantining fish is one of those topics w differing opinions, with most these days saying its a must. I am one of those who do not quarantine and there are quite a few in R2R who don't. It's up to you.
I buy from lfs who treat their water and mark arrival date of each fish. I try to buy fish that have been in stock for several weeks to ensure they are adapted to tank life and healthy. IMO quarantining fish for 2-3 months w meds in a sterile tank adds stress to an already anxious fish & believe it's healthier to place a new arrival directly into a comfortable reef tank after acclimating. 6 years w/o a problem. There are many who believe tank can be too clean and in fact feed chopped up clams/mussels w/o rinsing sand off them directly to tank for healthier livestock such a @Paul B
