How does one quarantine Gobies and Blennies and sand sifting fish. I have a 120G DT and a QT for fish, and a QT for coral.

My QTs arw bare bottom tanks. I know every single LFS near me has ich in their system and I cant afford one from Marine Collectors right now.

I want to add a Goby and a Blenny to the clutch of fish in the QT and about to go on copper.

How do I feed one without sand or rock in a QT tank?

Thanks

Place a dish of sand that can be at least 2 inches deep...a wrasse will bury into the dish at night time during quarantine. The Goby may actually take all the sand out of the dish and build a hiding place somewhere else in the quarantine tank...that's what mine did. I actually have a few 3/4" and 1" pvc pieces (about 4 inches long) in my quarantine tank...the goby buried those tubes with sand and then hid inside the PVC tubes....came out to eat and swim around occasionally.

A blenny isn't going to need sand, though. But, they do like to have several places to "hide" during quarantine...again the PVC pieces work well along with some fake plants, etc...

The sand will absorb some copper (if you are treating with copper), so discard it when you are done with quarantine.

Also, I recommend not filling the quarantine tank to the top with water when quarantining blennies and gobies...they are jumpers! I lost 2 diamond gobies in quarantine to jumping...and one I had an egg crate cover and the other I used an egg crate cover AND attached netting underneath (he just found the one slit near the HOB filter entrance)! With the water lower, it helps hold them in the tank for quarantine.

Good luck!

Sorry, didn't see this question!

I feed all my fish frozen foods during quarantine. The Goby will sift sand, but it will also go into the water column to eat frozen mysis, etc...
