Today let's take about quarantining coral! I have to be honest and say that I have never QT'ed coral and that's not to say that you shouldn't because you can easily introduce disease to your fish but also disease and pest into your coral population if you're not careful. Let's talk about it!

1. Do you quarantine new coral before adding it to your reef tank?

2. What does quarantining coral look like to you? What's your regimen?

one reason i dont understadn quarntine is because you have to buy all brand new lights and flow and everything.

3. Rinse
4. QT for 2 weeks to a month
5. Acclimate to DT
6. Two Little Fishies Revive
7. Rinse
8. Place in DT

What does ‘acclimate to QT/DT’ entail?

NO, never!

Acclimate, add to the tank. (I will sometimes drip if it’s an LPS or SPS)

IMHO, acclimating coral just causes more and more stress, especially since the water in your QT tank probably aren’t the same exact parameters as your display tank. Also, the light I would imagine would be much different.

Hello everyone! Personally, Ich management was not working for me and my lifestyle so I had to switch to total prevention. If you don't qt, I don't hate you! Personally I place my inverts and corals in a fishless frag tank for 90 days prior to touching my dt. I like qting coral because it gives you chance to catch some pretty nasty pests, I buy from reputable sources but I did have a zoanthid eating nudibranch outbreak once, had over 40 frags of zoas, even a huge rock covered in zoas, they all got munched on until I solved the issue and I ultimately lost around 30 frags.

I’ve been doing a 6 week quarantine with dips every 2 weeks. Got AEFW a year ago and fortunately beat them with weekly dips of ALL of my acros. No thank you again.

My QT tank is 3 gallons and is plumbed to receive waste water from my display via AWC. Excess water drains out into a floor drain via the overflow. This way it gets 100% water changes daily and matches my main systems parameters! It also has a HOB UV and a regular HOB for additional bio filtration too.
