Hey guys! I’m getting a foxface lo soon in 2 more weeks. Here in NZ the fish have a mandatory quarantine period before sale. My supplier does a week of prazipro (I think a week I’m not sure) and then 2 weeks of cupramine before selling their fish.

When my foxface arrives and I put it into my QT do you guys think it’s unsafe to copper it again? Should I just FW dip to diagnose any parasites, and then observe for 6 weeks rather than copperimg again prophylactcially?

Thank you for the advice

Hi! If it were me I would freshwater dip and observe instead of putting him through copper again! [emoji16]

I would do a full qt regimen on the fish once you receive it.

There is no way to know if the previous qt was done properly.

I would probably do just observation. But have antibiotics on hand to treat any bacterial infections at the first sign. Travel can stress even a fish with no parasites.

Ok thanks for the input guys! Maybe I’ll observe but check on the fish twice a day.
I recovered from a 105 gallon tank wipeout 1 year ago, and I’m almost fully stocked again. That’s why I’m asking and being super paranoid.

I suppose if I observe for a few weeks then copper it, it would have had time to recover and be ready for copper again right?

This^^^^ right here is why I would still use a QT regiment. Clearly what ever is being done, is not to a point that you are guaranteed a "clean fish". Or you never would have had a wipeout in the first place. Nothing is perfect. Treating fish doesn't require a MD. It does however take alot of time and care. As well as very precise diagnosing/measuring/dosing/monitoring fish in treatment.

+1 ^^^ The only QT you can trust is your own. ;)

Thanks for the advice hot rocks
So it sounds like coppering it again is the way to go.

Oh yeah actually with that first wipeout, I never quarantined at all my mistake.

You are welcome.

I personally would run copper again. That's me.

I understand what you are saying about your wipeout. Which is not surprising. It's just the current way of the hobby. Although feedback from other members and friends who have lived outside of the USA. The distribution system seems to be much cleaner than ours. As you well know, things can still slip through the cracks.

Also I think the only reason our distribution system is cleaner is because I believe we have a lower demand for marine fish. So fewer fish going theough
